Not All Accounts of Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church Are True
No priest that we
are aware of has been more unfairly tried and convicted than Father Gordon
MacRae. Just as those who are guilty of sexual molestation shake the
conscience of ordinary Americans, those who are unfairly accused should
merit the same response. Sadly, this is not the case, and it is certainly
not true in Father MacRae’s case.
For justice to be done,
Father MacRae needs to raise additional funds to pay for an
investigation that may help enormously. If you agree that he has been
treated unfairly, please give what you can to help this man.
On September 23,
2008, Father Gordon MacRae marked 14 years in a cell in the New
Hampshire State Prison. Father MacRae is 55 years old. The crimes for
which he was accused and convicted are claimed to have occurred when
he was between 25 and 30 years old. Brought with no evidence or
corroboration whatsoever, the claims were accompanied by lawsuits
settled for hundreds of thousands of dollars despite much evidence of
fraud. On April 27 and 28, 2005, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist
for The Wall Street Journal published an account of the travesty of
justice by which Father Gordon MacRae was convicted (see “A Priest’s
Story” above). It is a story, as described in First Things magazine,
of “a Church and a justice system that seem indifferent to justice.”
In the years since the panic-driven and selective release of files and
other accumulated claims and demands for money – but no evidence –
some began to take a closer look under the surface of the case against
Father Gordon MacRae. What is found there is troubling to anyone
concerned for
the state of due process, justice, and liberty in America. (cont'd)
Obama's Faith-based Program
Tests the Faithful
The Obama
administration said today that its newly designed Office of Faith-Based
and Neighborhood Partnerships will decide on a case by case basis whether
a funding request violates the Constitution. Joshua DuBois, who will head
this initiative, said today that “People on both sides are going to be a
little uncomfortable with that.”
At issue are the hiring rights of religious social service organizations
that receive federal funding.

PUBLIC OPPOSES FUNDS
FOR ABORTION
The results of a Gallup poll asking the American people how they view some
of President Barack Obama’s early decisions are revealing: his lowest
support is on the issue of funding abortion. Three of four Americans agree
with him on four of the issues asked about, and two-thirds support him on
another; there were only two issues where he failed to receive majority
approval (the closing of Gitmo and abortion funding). ...cont'd

Obama: Pro-abortion President Who Will
harm America's Blacks
The
joy over the first black head of state must not overshadow the fact that
Obama supports extremely permissive abortion laws, and is against the
rights of the unborn. Abortion is diminishing black American communities.
The design of Planned Parenthood has always been that of using black
leaders to promote the self-destruction of their own people.

FAR FROM CUTIE

On May 28th, Father Alberto Cutie, the media priest who made national
headlines when he was photographed getting cozy with his girlfriend on a
Miami beach, joined the Episcopal Church. If this were some individual
church swapping it would be sad but not troubling. In this case, a priest,
espoused to the Catholic Church has turned his back on bedrock beliefs he
advocated and championed throughout his adult life. (cont'd)
STATEMENT from Archbishop John
C. Favalora, Archbishop of Miami,
I am genuinely disappointed by the announcement made earlier this
afternoon by Father Alberto Cutié that he is joining the Episcopal Church.
According to our canon
law, with this very act Father Cutié is separating himself from the
communion of the Roman Catholic Church (c. 1364, §1) by professing
erroneous faith and morals, and refusing submission to the Holy Father
(canon 751). He also is irregular for the exercise of sacred orders as a
priest (canons 1041 and 1044, §1) and no longer has the faculties of the
Archdiocese of Miami to celebrate the sacraments; nor may he preach or
teach on Catholic faith and morals (cannon 1336, §1). His actions could
lead to his dismissal from the clerical state.
This means that Father
Cutié is removing himself from full communion with the Catholic Church and
thereby forfeiting his rights as a cleric. Roman Catholics should not
request the sacraments from Father Cuité. Any sacramental actions he
attempts to perform would be illicit. Any Mass he says would be valid but
illicit, meaning it does not meet a Catholic’s obligation. Father Cutié
cannot validly officiate at marriages of Roman Catholics in the
Archdiocese of Miami or anywhere.

Priests
Fathers
Eugene O’Hagan, 48, his
brother Martin, 45, and their old school friend
David Delargy, 44, signed the deal near the steps of Westminster
Cathedral. The three men, who call their trio “The Priests,” said they
would donate the money made from the music to charity. More at "Catholics

Won't You Please Do Your Part?
It's interesting how the words of
St Pius X, "Renew All Things In Christ" can
be applied to the 50 year renovation
project we've recently embarked upon. If you're one of our year-round
parishioners you've seen the progress first-hand and I know you will agree
with me that it's going to be the most beautiful church in the country.
Picture walking into Sunday Mass on beautiful slate flooring with accent
carpeting, surrounded by solid marble walls. Our beautiful new
surroundings will not only be a testament to our love for Jesus but a test
of our commitment to Him that created us. It's through your generous
nature that we were able to begin this program and it's with your usual
continued support that we will be able to complete it.
Our Memorial Brick Garden has been a
wonderful memorial not only for our parish but for everyone whose name is
embossed for posterity. Many of our parishioners have been seen enjoying
the Florida sun while praying the rosary before Mass in the garden.
It's a great place to meditate. If you haven't already done your part
won't you take the time to become a part of our parish by donating a
memorial brick?

How Is Your Church Etiquette?
The Gospel
according to St. John (John 2:13-16) tells us that Jesus chased the money
changers from the Temple. Jesus is telling us to have respect for
Him in His house.
